Averett University Prioritizes Affordable and Accessible Learning
In a move aimed at making college more affordable, Averett University has announced significant cost reductions in tuition set to take effect in the 2026-2027 academic year. By removing complicated discounts and scholarships in favor of a clear base price, Averett hopes to ease financial stress for students. In addition to a lower overall cost, the University is taking steps in creating a simplified pricing plan to better explain what their students are actually paying for. This new approach shows a growth in Averett’s attempt to make college pricing clear and accessible; with hopes to raise enrollment and retention rates.
“We have taken action to reduce our overall tuition and to streamline the fee process so that students and families have a better understanding of our costs,” University President Dr. Thomas Powell said. “In addition to a significant reduction we have reworked all of our scholarships to ensure that Averett is one of the most affordable private universities in Virginia.”
With the costs of college tuition constantly rising, Averett’s new pricing plan is set to create a more accessible environment for students and families. Not only focusing on making the cost of education affordable for its students, the University wants to make the payment process clear, simple, and effective.
“I think lowering tuition shows the school is really listening to students,” said Cameron Carson, a junior business major at Averett University. “It makes me feel like they care about making college more accessible.”
To further their restructuring, Averett University is making changes to their admissions process. Effective in the upcoming academic year, High School seniors graduating with a 2.5 GPA, as well as three math courses, will be automatically admitted into the University. This direct process relieves college admission stress, and further enforces Averett’s goal of creating an accessible environment at a higher institution.
With hopes to not only raise the rate of enrollment, but to create a positive impact on the costs and accessibility of higher education, Averett University is taking proactive steps to ensure an environment where students are welcome and understood. These changes will create a sense of clarity and reassurance while students and families take on their college journeys.
