Spring break is one of the most anticipated weeks of the school year for students across the nation. This year, spring break will be from Monday, March 2 – Sunday, March 8. The question everyone is asking each other is, “What are your plans for spring break?”
Marek Hanscom, a sophomore majoring in criminal justice, said,
“I will be going home to Middlesex for spring break,” Hanscom said, “It will be a good time to disconnect for a little and catch up with family before heading back for the last part of the semester.”
Hanscom, who is a part of the Averett men’s soccer team, has had two very different semesters.
“The fall semester was my first one with the soccer team, and it was so intense in terms of practice, games, and some long trips on the road,” Hanscom said, “This semester has been less demanding physically, as we are currently in our off season. But it took a really long time to re-adjust simply due to the extreme contrast between the fall and spring semesters.”
Some people use spring break as a chance to create memories, explore, and broaden their horizons. Hanscom, however, views this as calm before the storm.
“The weeks between spring break and the summer holiday are arguably the most demanding mentally and academically,” Hanscom said, “The sheer amount of work, tests, and other kind of assignments makes it tough to maintain a good academic standing, but also a clear and calm state of mind.”

Roger Pamies Petit, a sophomore majoring in aviation flight operations, said,
“The tennis team will stay here for spring break,” Petit said, “We have our first ODAC fixture March 1. So, when people ask us what our plans are, we say it’s to win.”
The men’s tennis team are the reigning ODAC champions, and after tasting glory in his freshman year, Petit has no plans to take his foot off the gas.
“The way we won the ODAC last year was incredible. It was an amazing feeling,” Petit said, “Now that we have done it one time, we believe, and have a strong desire, to do it again.”
Even though the team has had success, and will try to build off that success during this year’s spring break, what does one do when there is no school and your classmates have left?
“We have more time. More time to do school, practice, perfect our techniques. Whatever it may be, we have been afforded the luxury of time,” Petit said, “With both school and sports leveling up in terms of intensity after this break, it will be important to make the most of the time off.”
There has been a deep sense of excitement in and around campus the closer we get to spring break. Whether you will go home, stay and try to defend the ODAC title, or anything in between, we all will have a story to tell after this year’s edition of spring break.
