As the academic year comes to a close, universities across the country are taking the time to reflect on the accomplishments and contributions of their graduating seniors. One of Averett University’s 2024 seniors is dual athlete Philipp Bohnenkamp.
“I traveled all the way from Essen, Germany to start my college adventure here at Averett University in 2020,” Bohnenkamp said. “Averett was a great choice for me both for the athletic and academic opportunities.”
Throughout his time at Averett, Bohnenkamp has consistently demonstrated his commitment to academic excellence. Not only was he on the president’s list 6 out of 7 semesters, but also the top GPA Sophomore male in 2022, the top GPA Junior male in 2023, and the Odac scholar-athlete of the year 2023. Many achievements underscore his ability to balance the demands of athletics and academics with finesse.
“Academics are truly important to me because they serve as the foundation upon which I build my future,” Bohnenkamp said. “Just like an athlete gains their skills through hard training and practice, I believe excelling in academics provides me with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate life’s challenges and pursue my aspirations.”
In addition to his academic pursuits, Philipp Bohnenkamp has distinguished himself in business administration. His passion for the field and his exceptional talent were recognized when he was given the Outstanding Student in Business Administration award in 2024.
“I am thankful for my advisor who convinced me to double major in business administration & accounting and management science and minor in data analytics. Dr. Wright helped me greatly to fit all my classes to graduate after 3,5 years,” Bohnenkamp said. “My future plans are working for an accounting firm here in Danville, Virginia, and to sit for the CPA exams to become a CPA next year.”
Bohnenkamp did not only shine in the classroom. Being a tutor, a saac representative and the tennis team captain he was highly involved on campus.
“As a dual athlete in volleyball and tennis, I thrive on the diversity of challenges each sport presents. I embrace the intensity of competition and the joy of pushing my limits in both arenas,” Bohnenkamp said. “My advice for all upcoming college students is to get as involved as possible and to meet new people from all over the place.”
As Philipp Bohnenkamp concludes this chapter of his journey, we do not doubt that he will continue to inspire others with his commitment to success.
