Averett University prides itself on fostering a tight-knit community, where the bonds between staff and faculty members are strong. The university believes in nurturing and promoting from within when possible, recognizing the importance of familiarity and shared values in maintaining a cohesive community. By prioritizing internal talent, Averett University ensures that its staff and faculty members are not only highly qualified but also deeply connected to the university’s mission and culture.

Morgan Dearing, a proud Averett graduate from the class of 2023, holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. During her time at Averett, Morgan actively participated in various extracurricular activities. She showcased her athletic prowess as a valuable member of the women’s lacrosse team. Additionally, Morgan took on leadership roles within the student body, serving as the SGA president and a connection leader. She also dedicated her time to fostering a sense of community and support as a member of sister for sister and a member of the Black Student Union.

Morgan, currently pursuing her MBA in Leadership at Averett, also serves as a graduate assistant of student involvement. Balancing responsibilities with former classmates and friends can be challenging, but Morgan appreciates the understanding and respect shown by her peers.

“My friends that are still currently enrolled at Averett, they understand that I am an employee here but, they still respect me on work level but they also still respect me on a friend level.”

Now having 1 semester down in the books, Morgan recognizes the significant impact the university has had on her academic and personal growth.

“Averett has helped me in many ways, it has opened a lot of doors for me professionally, help me in my professional development training, leadership skills, and now I’m here working here because of the opportunities Averett has given me.”

Armed with knowledge and experience gained from her time at Averett, as well as working with college students, Morgan has her sights set on a future goal post-graduation: becoming a principal at an elementary school.
