Senior Spotlight: Ryan Curle

Many students at Averett often take on jobs at the University after they graduate, whether that be a full-time or graduate-assistant (GA) position. Ryan Curle, a fifth year senior majoring in sports medicine and physical education, plans to take on a GA position for two years as a wide receivers coach for the Averett football team after he graduates in May of 2023. Right now, he is working in the physical education department at Westwood Middle School in Danville, Virginia.

Curle, a New Kent, Virginia native, has been playing football since he was six years-old. He earned his position as quarterback and wide receiver his freshman year. In the 2022 season, Curle appeared in ten games and accomplished two touchdowns.

“As wide receivers coach, my job is to teach the athletes how to run routes and block along with situational awareness and the signals for the plays,” Curle said.

After graduating, Curle hopes to become a physical education teacher and coach.

“My time at Averett has helped me tremendously with guiding me where I want to be and what I want to do for a career,” Curle added.

In the future, he hopes to be a role model to those younger than him, just as his peers and coaches were to him during his time at Averett.
