If you’ve ever scrolled through Averett University’s esports social media pages and wondered who created the content posted, look no further than the Averett Esports Content Creation Team, or C.C.T. for short. The C.C.T. is a team of creative students that produce the content and designs that are posted on the official Averett esports social media pages to keep the team visible and the student body informed.
“It is a group of people that share esports content and run platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter,” Najim Bowman, esports social media manager and freshman, said. “We post game announcements, fan-engaging videos, and highlights.”
To manage the stream of content that gets created, the team is comprised of four specialized units – graphics, videography, streaming, and influencer. Each unit collaborates closely to design, create, edit, and produce the posted content.
To keep each unit running smoothly, multiple roles need to be filled. While some roles are federal work-study positions, you don’t have to be work-study eligible to volunteer your time and be a part of the team.
“There is a social media manager,” Christian Smart, esports editor and freshman, said. “There is video producer, photographer, editor, and graphic designer.”
The social media manager organizes all team members and social media projects. The video producers film and edit short informational and fun clips, while the editors put together highlight reels for the competition teams. The graphic designers design and create the game announcements, schedules, and result posts while making sure they stay on brand.
When everything runs smoothly the social media pages serve as the central hub of Averett Esports information and updates.
“My favorite part is seeing the content creation reflect into how the actual teams are doing,” Ashlee Study, esports videographer and freshman, said. “We have spread more awareness about it and gotten a few more members since really engaging with content creation. Hopefully, we’ll see more of that next year when we have new people come in.”
Anyone with a passion for esports or content creation can apply or volunteer their time.
“Anybody can be a part of it,” Study said. “Especially if you’re looking into going into social media marketing or sports communications. It’s a really fun thing to get engaged in, it’s a lot of work, but overall, it’s really enjoyable and you get to meet a lot of new people that you wouldn’t get to meet otherwise.”
“Esports with the social media team is a great way to start your career and boost your resume,” Bowman said. “And we’re welcome to those with experience to come and help.”
