Averett’s students have officially hit the halfway mark of their spring semester. Some students are preparing for midterms while others are preparing for spring break. Whether this is a student’s last semester or the end of their freshman year, the need to succeed becomes more prominent. Students across campus are taking action to keep success at the top of their to do list.
To be successful in their studies and life itself, students need to figure out what keeps them motivated.
“Some of the strategies that I use to stay motivated include taking mental breaks when needed and planning out my schedule,” Jocelin Jones, a senior majoring in sports medicine, said. “This helps me see what I have to expect for each week.”
Other students find motivation within the work they’re doing.
“I stay motivated by staying on top of my assignments and by being excited about what I’m doing,” Hannah Walton, a junior majoring in history, said.
College can be a strain on time management, causing very little motivation when students have busy schedules. Some students are athletes or heavily involved in campus life, resulting in them having to find out the best way to manage their time while also making sure they stay successful.
“I use a planner. I have a white board that I use and plan out everything that is due and what events I may need to be at. Using this helps me plan around the time that I may be busy and stay on track,” Jones said.
As college students, we can see success in the form of good grades. This means that students need to form good study habits and routines.
“Being in a quiet area with no one around allows for me to do my work and focus on what I’m doing, so I am able to do it well,” Walton said.
Success can be measured in many different ways in our life. One way we measure success is through good mental and physical health. As a college student, taking care of yourself can make you more successful in your studies as well as life in general.
“To take care of my mental health and physical health during the busy semester, I do things I enjoy,” Jones said. “This includes listening to music, playing with my emotional support animal, and taking walks.”
Averett University also offers so many services that students can use to be successful. Students can utilize the tutoring services provided by the Student Success Center on campus or form their own study groups. Students can also be aided in their success through their professors.
“I go to my professors’ office hours and make sure to have an open line of communication when it comes to confusing topics in class,” Walton said.
Student success is very important at Averett University. Through the services offered and by learning from fellow students, students are able to succeed at Averett and have successful futures.
