Averett University’s head men’s Golf coach Jermy Gamba, seems to be taking the Averett Cougars Men’s golf team in a good direction. The Cougars are currently ranked in the top 25 with two golfers ranked in the top 50.
Senior Killian O’Reily moved into the top 30, earning the No. 27 ranking individually. Freshman Benjamin Afzelius has also made a jump up to No. 42.
”The best word I would use to describe the Averett Men’s golf team heading into the spring semester would be progression. There has been a lot of progression for us on and off the golf course,” O’ Reilly said.
Afzelius was also named Golfer of the Week for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, making him the third men’s golfer to earn ODAC honors last fall.
In October 2024, The Cougars won the Chick-fil- A invitational hosted by Berry College, In the same month the cougars then went on to finish fifth in the O’Brien-Jensen Memorial hosted by Guilford College.
“We’re filled with confidence heading into the spring. If we’re able to shoot some low scores, place well high enough in our events, and move up in the rankings, then the National Championship will be within our reach!” O’ Reilly said.
