The potential Tik Tok ban has troubled people from all around the world. Data shows there are two-in-a-half billion users of the Chinese-owned app.
Although they may not agree with the ban, some students see downsides to the app.
“Scrolling on Tik Tok all day can be very bad for a person’s physical and mental health,” Thailand Evans, a computer science major, said. Evans noted that a positive of Tik Tok is that it is “a lot quicker than other apps.
Students like sports medicine major Mason Mitchell have noticed how upset people have become over the potential ban.
“I think the banning of Tik Tok is a good and bad thing,” Mitchell said. “It shows how quick the world can turn upside down in a matter of hours over an app. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tik Tok and don’t want it to go, but the way people reacted to the ban shows how people really live their lives through social media.”
Some students enjoy the fact that you can be both a Tik Tok consumer and a content creator.
“I enjoy watching different sports content, while mixing in a couple of funny videos,” Juelz Lawson, a sports medicine major, said. “Tik Tok has helped me spread the word of the Bible, since on Tik Tok I make videos of me reading the Bible.”
Concerns continue over how Tik Tok uses your personal data. We will have to wait and see what the Trump administration decides to do with this popular app.
