At Averett University, we are proud of our diverse and talented student body, but not many students stand out quite like Lucia Sanchez. All the way from Salamanca, Spain, Lucia has embraced life at Averett with passion and determination, balancing her roles as a business major, soccer player, and Bonner Leader.
“I traveled from Europe to start my college adventure here at Averett in 2022,” Sanchez said. “Averett was a great choice for me personally, because of the great business program and the athletic opportunities.”
Being a key player on the university’s soccer team, Lucia exemplifies dedication and teamwork, balancing her demanding athletic schedule with her academic pursuits. Her passion for soccer and her drive to excel in business make her a standout both on and off the field.
“I started playing soccer when I was just seven years old. Ever since then, it has always been a huge part of my life,” Sanchez said. “Being part of the team at Averett feels like being part of a family. We push each other to grow, both as players and as people.”
However, Lucia’s impact in Danville does not stop here. Right from the start the young adult decided to be part of the Bonner leaders on campus. As a Bonner Leader, she works closely with local primary school students from the Forest Hills Elementary School, sharing her time and skills to mentor and inspire young learners.
“Giving back to the community has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey here,” Sanchez said. “I love watching the children grow and learn. They remind me of why I chose to come to the U.S. – to challenge myself and make a difference.”
Lucia’s story exemplifies how Averett students can embrace opportunities to grow, give back, and thrive in a new environment. Whether she’s scoring goals on the soccer field, excelling in her business studies, or inspiring young minds at Forest Hills Elementary, Lucia embodies the spirit of determination and community. Sanchez isn’t just a student at Averett; she’s a role model, a leader, and a testament to the power of embracing challenges and making the most of every opportunity.
