Brave, creative, adventurous, silly, ethereal, kindhearted, and genuine are just some of the words that can be used to describe Lisanne Guiaux. Guiaux is a current junior that is getting ready to graduate early with a bachelors in sports communications with a minor in English.
Originally from the Netherlands, Guiaux traveled across the sea to Averett University not only for a higher education but to play sports in college. Guiaux is a dual sport athlete playing soccer and lacrosse. If you didn’t think she was busy already being a dual sport athlete, she is also a member of the sustainability club, a presidential ambassador, the vice president of the international life club (ILC), part of the Bonner program, an internship helping the athletic communications team with media, and runs her own Instagram account of photos and videos that she takes during her free time.
During Guiaux’s time at Averett, she was able to join various organizations and move up within such organizations. For instance, within the Bonnor program Guiaux has become part of the leadership team which is responsible for helping with all aspects of the program and mentoring new Bonner students.
“Lisanne is awesome! She is very dedicated, hard-working, and organized. She is very good at problem-solving and being creative,” April Love-Loveless director of the Bonner program and experiential learning said.
Averett is very lucky to have Guiaux as a part of its community. From helping at the center for community engagement for career competitiveness (CCECC) to being a part of so many communities at Averett, she has been able to come out of her shell and grow as not only a student, but as a person as well.
“She is extremely bright, and she always has insightful comments to our class discussions. I’ve certainly seen her grow, not only as a student but as a student leader as well” Dr. Susan Huckstep, professor of communications, said.
Guiaux has not only been able to make an impact on her professors, but her teammates and friends as well. Playing two sports, she has been able to get close to many of her fellow teammates on the soccer and lacrosse team. She earned ODAC all-academic team’s honors for two years in a row for both soccer and lacrosse.
“She might be mysterious, but she is very funny. She is a very kind person on and off the field. She is a very generous person when it comes to friendships and even as a teammate. But she has the best intentions for everybody,” Gianna Minafo said.
Minafo is not only one of Guiaux’s teammates for both soccer and lacrosse, but one of her closest friends. From friends sleeping next to each other on travel buses, to late night food trips, and trips to friends’ houses for holidays.
“On the field she is also always staying open minded, and she helps me see multiple perspectives. One of my key moments with Lisanne was when she came to Maryland and spent New Years with my family,” Faith Bowlin said.
Bowlin, captain and teammate on the women’s lacrosse team, has been able to see Guiaux grow on the field, in the classroom and as a person.
“I love doing photography and videography, I could do it all day. In my free time I could do it till 1 in the morning, and I really hope I can continue doing it after college,” Guiaux said.
Not only is working with a camera Guiaux’s hobby, but her passion as well. Once graduated, Guiaux wants to work for a professional sports organization or large university doing media for them or being a social media manager. This would all be after she is able to get some time to herself after graduation to travel across the globe, another passion and dream of hers.
