One of the things that makes Averett unique is the presence of its equestrian department and its very own barn. What sets this program apart is that having their own barn allows Averett to provide an additional campus that offers everything needed to become a professional in a variety of fields.
“Averett’s equestrian program is very strong in the management side of things,” said Marlee Luckett, a sophomore.
“My favorite thing I’ve learned in this department is how to organize my training plans and track my progress,” Luckett added.
This focus on developing key skills gives Averett’s equestrian students a significant advantage as they begin to look toward life after college. With programs that prepare them to be successful and equipped with the necessary professional skills, they are well-positioned for success in the job market.
“I feel like the department really has each student’s best interests at heart and provides avenues for success,” said Sheyenne Boubion, a senior.
The barn offers a unique learning environment that emphasizes professionalism, while still maintaining the fun and camaraderie that make it such an enjoyable place to be.
“What makes the equestrian department so special is the team environment,” Luckett said. “From everyday care to early morning shows, everyone is so eager to lend a hand.”
“My favorite part of being at the barn was the early morning shifts because everyone was so tired and a little delirious, which made it fun to be there,” Boubion said.
Students agree that some of the best experiences at the barn happen outside of classes and shows.
“Being out at the barn is kind of like disconnecting and really immersing yourself in the present—being with everyone and with the horses,” Luckett said.
This shows that the overall environment at Averett’s equestrian program is something special. It’s a world unto itself, offering so much to those involved. Averett definitely wouldn’t be the same without it.
