Averett University has recently teamed up with Mount Hermon Baptist Church to offer a Bible study session each week, providing students with a space to explore faith and fellowship. The study takes place at Averett’s Blount Chapel every Monday at 5 p.m. and is open to all students.
The initiative began when Brandon Bennett, a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, and Averett’s Head Football Coach Patrick Henry, collaborated to provide a spiritual opportunity for the football players. Bennett explained that Henry, who recently became a believer, wanted to create a Bible study session during the busy football season, as Sundays can be hectic for the players.
“We’ve been meeting for five weeks now, starting from September 9, 2024,” Bennett said.
For Bennett, Bible study holds deep personal importance. He shared,
“It’s something I do every day. I try to start my mornings with it. There was a point in my life when I realized I wasn’t living how a believer should. If I wanted to know God, I had to spend time in His word.”
The students who attend the Bible study also hold a special place in Bennett’s heart.
“It means a lot because it’s an opportunity for our church to do things beyond our own walls. I’m thankful for each of them. Whether they’ve grown up with faith or are learning about it for the first time, it’s encouraging to see them dedicate their time to studying God’s word. I think it’s awesome,” Bennett said.
As the Bible study continues, it offers a chance for students to connect with one another and deepen their understanding of faith, fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth on campus. We would love to see you next Monday!
