This semester Averett University’s cafeteria has expanded its offerings to include more diverse and health-conscious choices. According to head chef Cameron Reagan, after listening to student’s suggestions and concerns the cafeteria will now feature more vegetarian and vegan options as well as some gluten-free options. “With the changing dietary preferences of our students, we need to step up and meet their needs and I think we’ve accomplished that goal,” Chef Reagan said.

While some of the food offerings have changed, the cafeteria’s hours of operation and meal costs remain the same. “It was important to keep the prices the same as last year.  We worked hard as a team to expand the menu offerings, but still keep the prices the same for students, faculty, staff and their guests,” Jason Swanger, the food service director said.

Averett University offers several dining choices. The Cougar Den is an all-you-care-to-eat facility offering a variety of stations from home cooking, grill station, full salad bar, pizza and pasta, deli, and desserts.

Jut’s Cafe has three separate options including The Spread, Java City, and Jut’s Market. The Spread serves made to order sandwiches, flatbreads, warm cookies, soup, and more. Students can use a meal exchange option for a made-to-order sub + chips/fruit cup + fountain beverage.

• Jut’s Market provides grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, ice cream, and snacks. Its hours are Mon-Thur 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Fri 8:00 AM – Midnight, and Sat-Sun 4:00 PM – Midnight.
• Java City serves fresh-baked pastries, espresso drinks, blended beverages, and smoothies. Java City operates Mon-Thur 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Fri 8:00 AM – Midnight, and Sat-Sun 4:00 PM – Midnight.
