Christy Mayes joined Averett in September of 202 as director of counseling services. Mayes is from Pittsylvania County so she is very familiar with the Danville area. She has been a licensed counselor working with mental health since 2013. She is following a passion she had since high school.

 “In high school I always knew I wanted to be in the health field,” Mayes said. “I want to help people become the best version of themselves.” 

Mayes believe that counseling can be beneficial, no matter what a person is going through.

 “Everyone can benefit from counseling because it’s always good to talk to someone that is not going to be judgmental towards you.”

Mayes’ goal for the counseling center is to “address the concerns of the students to make everyone feel that their needs are important and they have help that they need.”
