Cross Country is Off and Running with New Coach

Cross Country at Averett University has had its setbacks prior to this year’s season. One week before the season’s start on September 4, the cross country team welcomed new head coach Douglas Wohlstein.

Wohlstein notes that both the men’s and women’s teams are small in number, but are strong nonetheless and are making great strides (pun intended) as the season progresses. He has made a team motto out of a statement made by one of the runners on the men’s team during a rainy day practice. “Rain or shine we grind.”

Wohlstein is looking to create a tight-knit team atmosphere as this season continues. The cross country team is also in need of more runners. Currently, the runners must race as individual runners rather than as a team.

Wohlstein hopes to resolve this issue by bringing more attention to the team and bringing more runners into the Averett University cross country program.
