Animal Crossing Sales Soar Despite Shipping Delays due to Coronavirus

Evan Phillips, Staff Writer

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released on March 20, 2020 and it could be one of the best selling video games in Japan. Within the first three days of release in Nintendo’s home market, not including digital copies of the game, it sold 1.88 million physical copies.

Even amidst problems from the coronavirus, people are still buying Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Nintendo Switches. Animal Crossing New Horizons’ launch sale sold more copies than the past three Animal Crossing game releases combined.

The Nintendo Switch Console sales rose drastically with the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the Animal Crossing themed console despite Nintendo’s warning of shipment delays from the coronavirus pandemic.

The release of a game so many people enjoy allows everyone that is stuck at home to have more fun during these trying times.

Producer Hisashi Nogami told The Verge. “I am very disheartened and saddened by the events happening across the world. Considering the timing, we hope that a lot of the Animal Crossing fans will use this as an escape, so they can enjoy themselves during this difficult time.”
